Buttonwood Cafe Is Seasonal
Plans to Rebuild Flamingo Lodge Dead For Now
The Flamingo Lodge
Restaurant that once overlooked Florida Bay and which had an extensive selection
of seafood, steak, chicken, vegetarian dishes and local specialties, disappeared along with the old and antiquated Flamingo Lodge in 2005 thanks to hurricanes Katrina and Wilma.
In place of the old Flamingo Lodge Restaurant is the Buttonwood Cafe,
which is located below the visitor center building. Offering lunch and dinner, it is open only during the height of the visitor season, from January to mid-April. Apparently there just isn't enough business the rest of the year.
When it is in operation, the Buttonwood Cafe is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The lunch menu includes salads, soups, sandwiches, fish sandwich, hamburgers and pizza. Prices start at around $8. It can be very crowded at lunch, with every seat occupied.
The dinner usually is a repeat of lunch. Menu, of course, subject to change.
Don't come to Flamingo relying on the Buttonwood Cafe to be open. Call ahead to the Flamingo Visitor Center to see if the restaurant is open and verify its operating hours:
239/695-2945.
When visiting Flamingo, plan ahead for food, drink and other needs since Flamingo Marina is the only source of drinks and snacks, no meals.
